I’m pretty sure we can all agree that oil is pretty much bad for us, and the planet. Nuff said right? So why are we using it still?
The only argument is that we need it. Clearly we don’t. If tomorrow, we all woke up, and the world entire oil supply dried up. Everything. Gone. Aliens took it. It evaporated. Whatever happened, it’s gone. What would actually happen.
Panic. Turmoil. Economic collapse. War. Well, maybe not so much war, since the can’t really fly or drive. We’d still have power, less than 1% of power gets to us from oil. How long until the situation sorts it’s self out? I’d guess 6 months or so until the sheer panic and chaos is close to gone. Yea, we’ll be feeling this for many many years to come however, but the brunt will be over pretty quickly.
All the capitalists of the world would have an answer pretty fast, and I’m betting big oil would be far from finished. There’d probably be a ‘surprising’ turn of events that oil saves us with the new, and improved, shmoil! Or something to that not so obvious effect. Big oil is surely not going the release their money grip with out a big twisted fight, you can bet on that. They will defend their thrones and crowns till the bitter end.
Natural gas conversions of cars are pretty simple. Plastics can be made from vegetables. Lubricants synthetic. Films and fibers naturally. We really don’t need the stuff.
So then. We know the stuff is going to kill us. We know it’s going to destroy the planet. But we don’t care. Sure there’s some bleeding hearts out there that live off the grid, don’t drive, yada yada yada, but generally, yup, your all dummies. (As I type on my plastic keyboard sitting on a vinyl chair.) Dummies.
