A big part of that statement comes out of spite. Some athletes, that don’t really get paid for what they do, manage to live their lives while people pay them to do what they love. Kind of a dream come true.
But I saw pictures recently of Sochi. Just a wee bit after the Olympics and it’s a dump already! All I could thing was about how much money was poured in there, and it’s all gone to waste now.
I had a look on the google, and was rather surprised to find that the IOC’s net worth is 134 times that on the national bank of Greece! Second only to Apple. Yes second. That makes it worth more than the Google! It sits at $47.5 billion! Yikes!
Now the the dummy part. A gold medal, although priceless I’m sure to the athlete that wins it, is actually worth about 700 bucks. Although I despise the financial world we’re forced to live in at times, I can’t imagine being the absolute best at something in the world, and that only being worth $700. So spend 4 years, in not an entire life of incredibly hard work, for a $700 prize? That’s a bit stupid.
Yet again, another example of how the heard of humans are just a bunch of dummies. I’d surely be the one bitching that I ain’t gettin paid! And a fail of capitalism too, the big companies and sponsors get rich of the back of the ones doing all the tough stuff. Sounds a bit like the UFC!
